Donald Trump is expected to sign executive orders aimed at restricting immigration from various Middle East and African countries.

The United States President Donald Trump is expected to sign various executive orders to launch his immigration crackdown. Apart from issuing an executive order in order to start constructing a wall between the U.S. and Mexico, it is also expected that an executive order is issued to restrict access to the U.S. for some visa holders and refugees.

Visa Restrictions

Despite the fact that initially it was proposed that Muslims will not be allowed to enter the U.S., the position has now been softened as to restrict visas for individuals coming from countries which are deemed to be of danger to homeland security. It is thus expected that the new President will restrict access to visa holders from countries including ::

  • Syria
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Somalia
  • Sudan
  • Yemen

It is understood that the U.S.State Department will be instructed to stop issuing visas to people from those nations and to stop any current visa holders from those countries from entering into the United States.

Our Citizenship Expertise

Once such a ban is effectively in place we would be able to advise you on the implications and how this may affect you. The Maltese Citizenship Programme allows holders of a Maltese passport to travel to the U.S. without the need to apply for a Visa, under the U.S. Visa Waiver Program. Another citizenship programme granting the right to reside in the U.S. is the Grenada Citizenship by Investment Programme whereby by virtue of the US-Grenada E-2 Treaty Investor Visa, citizens of Grenada can open a business in the U.S. and reside therein.
