Protecting and defining the roles within the workplace is the result of an evolving practice in law. Cyprus has a  plethora of legislative measures and holds membership with the International Labour Organisation and is a signatory to the European social charter. Employment Law has emerged in Cyprus through the Employment and Industrial Relations Act to provide the necessary framework for employees and employers to know thier rights and limits.

The Employment and Industrial Relations Act provides for the individual binding measures in regard to thier wages, conditions of employment, discrimination in employment, and other protective measures such as the right to join a workers organisation and the creation of a tribunals board for Employment and indsutrail relations to be arbitrated.

in addition to the Employment and Industrial Relations Act, the ratification of several international and regional agreements provides for extra anti-discrimination and fairness measures introduced into the Laws of Cyprus. these include measures to protect against Gender Discrimination, Discrimination against People with Disability and the provision of measures for access to employment. As well as more direct measures for part time employees, parental leave, and health and safety requirements.
